Time to lay down tools and have a bit of a chat. The field is coming along nicely, and we are starting to find our groove at long last. We dropped in at the Farmer’s Market, and everyone was singing the “not enough rain blues” Thankfully, we have about $12,000 worth of flat hose, wobbler heads, drip tape and all the gear clamps you could possibly want, and still somehow we are always needing more. Every two hours, things are getting moved and along with this heat, the things that are established are growing extremely well. Now…getting fall crops that are seeded is proving to be a bit of a struggle, but I think we will ultimately be just fine.
Before I forget…River road is still under construction. You can most easily access us from Leitrim and then past the signage that indicates local traffic only. Coming to the farm makes you …local traffic. Kind of like a secret club. A bunch of questions around boxes. Cardboard boxes still seem the best solution. Can they be returned? They are not supposed to be. But if it is in perfect shape…. You know.
It really was the quintessential summer day today. I hope you are able to savour some of it as you make your weekly picks. Definitely, we are in the heart of bean season. We did have a bed of lettuce bolt on us, which was a bit disappointing. There is some lovely Bok Choi ready to come this week. I am a fan of it. Pretty sure we have enough to go around, but I better take a second count just to be sure. Up to this year, a box was a box was a box. Now that we are customizing it is making the business of ‘counting’ a lot more …let us just say…. interesting (lol)
Acks! It is almost 6 pm. Best get going. I hope you enjoy this week’s offering. Thank you for being awesome. Your messages and notes of encouragement and support are much appreciated 🙂
