Sorry for being tardy,

Seems to be an issue on the Harvie end. It just kept spinning its wheels instead of building our share for us. So something ‘technical’ must be going on.  Maybe their weather hit them hard.

It also got quite dramatic here for a wee bit this evening as well with lightning, wind and rain.  August weather 🙂  Back at our farm growing up, Dad built a huge covered back deck with a rail strong and wide enough to sit on.  On more than one occasion, I remember sitting in the middle of it, hair on my arms standing on end as the bright flashes flickering the night to day for an instant.

We are moving into my favorite part of the season.  The cukes and zukes are in full production.  I haven’t done a count…But I believe there is enough eggplant for those who wish it.  Tomatoes…are literally one week away, and I am excited about that.  Also, next week…I am going to start in on the potatoes.  I’ve only looked at the Norlands (red skin/white flesh), and they are looking like they are ready to go. I don’t think I have ever grown yellow beans as sweet as the ones we have. They really are delicious, and we got a good catch.

The big news this week is that we are going to delve into the onions for real. NOT the shallots… but you know…the big rounder ones that you have kept asking for.  Well, 90 days since planting have well passed, and they look… well…..  wow.  A very special harvest. There is about an acre of them, so let’s get to it and start making use of them! Both red and white.

There is a lot more but I am aware of the time and I have to make up the share so I’m just going to do that.  I got to meet a few of you last week and I have to say you are quite the nifty bunch.  Oh…and some of you picked up the patty pan challenge in earnest  and did some great stuff and sent me pictures which always makes me smile.  Fun.

So without further ado…  enjoy the offering and if there is anything you are wanting/needing me to hear …  you can always write me at mike@mikesgardenharvest.com   🙂
